There are several reasons we limit our work to the dry season. It’s hard on our workers and their families if we are on site for months at a time. And, in the rainy season our work hours are often shortened by rain storms. But, the greatest challenge during the rainy season is simply getting staff and supplies from place to place. In the past, we’ve had it happen that supplies as critical as food, fuel and drinking water were just a few miles away but, for all practical purposes might as well have been on the far side of the moon.

By planning intensive work for the dry season, we can avoid work stoppages during inclement weather and the delays that occur when roads are impassible. The problem, of course, is that danger never takes a break for the weather. What the people of Laos need and deserve are humanitarian clearance that continues even during the most challenging times.
